Bijli
Mahadev temple is 11 km from Kullu on top of mountain having a
scenic confluence of the Beas and Parvati rivers.
The site of the
most striking temple-Bijli Mahadev is breath taking. Far away from
maddening crowd one can sit in meditation posture to forget all worries
of life. The temple is dedicated to Hindu trinity God "SHIVA" .
The temple on a
steep hill has a 20 meters rod on top which is reputedly struck by Bijli
(lightning) shattering the stone "LINGAM" (Oneness Symbol Of SHIVA &
SHAKTI) inside. The priest put the "LINGAM" together each time
with butter and a grain mixture until the next lightening strike breaks
it apart again.
Getting there
several buses until late afternoon from Left Bank Bus Stand. The road of
towards Bijli Mahadev is under construction. One can also hire taxi to
reach this sacred place. There is a short distance journey which has to
be covered on foot. It is a short distance trekking experience. |
